Battle at Cork

REBELS BEATEN Uli; ißy Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.] (Received 8, 12.50 p.m.) London, Jan 7 Fighting at Cork broke out again during tne week-end and lasted sevn hours, the rebels finally retreating with seven killed and nineteen wounded. Mill street was the principal scene of the fighting. Here the rebels captured un Outpost by a trick. A woman shot two sentries au 1 then signalled to the rebels, who rushed the post. Fitty Irregulars, using 13 machineguns and hoses which poured out streams of petrol, attacked the main body uf the Free Staters in the Carnegie Library, but were repulsed. juiam Yuen, rebel chief of staff, led the attack dressed as a priest. Thq “Daily Mail’s” Dublin correspondent states that a clause in the Irish Land Bill j rovidcs for the compulsory sale of the purchase price to be spread over 70 years, calculated on a basis of annual payments which will be less than the present rent. —(A. and N.Z.)
