HAWKE’S BAY COUNTY COUNCIL.
M ()N THLY MEETIN G. The monthly meeting of the Hawke’s Bay County Council was held this morning, there being present Messrs Mason Chambers (chairman), 11. M. Campbell, C. C. Smith, F. B. Logan and b. Bennett. It was decided to impose a fine of 10 per cent on all rates reamaining unpaid after February 14th. The Council will hold a special meeting in January. Reporting in regard to road access to Twyford School, the chairman stated that it was understood that they were getting direct access from Mr McLean, but |hey now found that McLean proposed that a road should have three or four right angles in it. This latter proposal was not a suitable one as far as tho County was concerned. The matter was left in the hands of jCr. T. E. Crosse to go into further with Mr McLean. It was decided to effect a lien on the Waiohiki Block in lieu of rates unpaid. The chairman reported on the Foporangi and Ohara Bridges and the cost of erecting these. Mr Logan moved that the report of the committee set up be adopted. BRIDGE. A draft agreement between tho Napier Harbour Board and the County Council lor the sale of the old Westshore bridge to th© former was agreed to, GENERAL, A letter from the Department of Public Health regarding a nuisance caused, by the damning of a natural watercourse at*Paki Paki was referred to the engineer for a report. The Lands and Survey Department offered to lease some land at Awatoto. Ou Mr. Campbell’s suggestion it was decided to write to the Minister of Internal Affairs and get th© land vested in the county. The Omar an ui Drainage Board’s request for a grant in aid of its drain cleaning work was left in the hands of the chairman. Th© Park vale School Committee and the Parkvale Progressive Society wrote asking the council to concrete the footpath fronting the school.—it was decided to obtain tenders and submit them to th© member for the district, Cr. Crosse. Die request of the Haumoana Beach Improvement Society for old timber to erect a bridge was deferred. Tl>d Clive Tennis Association’s request for a playing ground iu Farndon Park was left in the hands of tho chairman and Cr. Rathie. Mr. H. Tolley wrote suggesting that the council ask the Minister of Public Works if its engineer should report on irrigation at Matapiro. Mr. Campbell moved, that the _request be given effect to. Members were agreed that an irrigation ©cneme would be very beneficial to tKat district. The Hawke’s Bay Employers’ Association advised that the Conciliation Council had granted partial exemption to th© council in the labourers’ award. On the chairman’s motion it was decided to raise a loan of £BOO ove£ the Te Mata water supply district, c Accounts totalling £3,757 4/3 were passed for payment.
