FREEZING WORKERS' AWARD.

THE TEAM SYSTEM. MATTER FOR ARBITRATION COURT.

Christchurch, Sept. 29.

A sitting of the Conciliation Council was held to consider the application by the New Zealand Refrigeration Company. for an award to deal with the team system of slaughtering. The respondents named were the Canterbury Freezing Works and Related Trades Employees Union, and the New Zealand Freezing Works and Related Trades Employees’ Association. The workers were not represented. The commissioner said that when the application was received he had some doubt as to whether the council had jurisdiction to deal with it. and had applied to the Arbitration Court for directions. The registrar replied that the proposed system was an entirely new one for New Zealand and the proceedings should he for a supplementary award. The dispute should be treated as in any ordinary case. The commissioner added that respondents, not haying filed counter-pro-posals or nominated assessors, the application for a supplementary award would be forwarded to the court without anv recommendation.
