INQUEST.
FREDERICK ALFRED COLLIFORD. An inquest was held in Hostings yesterday afternoon on Frederick Alfred Colliford, slaughterman, employed at the Paki Paki Freezing Works, aged 67, who was found dead in his bed yesterday morning. Mr R. W. Dyer, S.M., presided as coroner. Mrs Margaret Gordon, in whose deceased boarded anil lodged for seven years, deposed that he had, she thought, an aunt in Christchurch. He was a native of Jersey, Channel Inlands. He had not been well for some time. He had been treated for rheumatism. She detailed the circumstances already published. W. P. Johnson, medical practitioner, deposed that he made » post mortem examination of the body. The left lung showed signs of old-standing severe pleurisy. Both lungs were unhealthy due to the condition of the heart The muscular structure of the heart was in an advanced stage of degeneration and one valve was badly diseased. The condition of the heart, and of the blood-vessels off the heart was such that Ee was liable to die at anv time. Death was due to cardiac failure, due to the degenerate stat? of the heart, probably of rheumatic origin. r . . The coroner returned a verdict in accord with the medical evidence.
