WAIPUKURAU ELECTRIC SCHEME.
(Own Correspondent.) Under the supervison of Mr L. A. Payne, representing Messrs Hay and Viekerman, Wellington ,a start was made yesterday pegging out the town tor the installation of the borough’s electric scheme. There are about 400 pegs to bo put in. The poles—39o altogether—have arrived in Napier frtWi Australia. Now that a start has been made it is considered that the power wiil be running by next March. That is the objective the engineers are aimling at. The power is going to be generated locally. The Tangye gas engine of 125 horse power is expected to arrive here from England about Christinas time. The system to be installed conforms to the national standard for reticulation, being 400-230 volts, 3 phase alternating current. This means that when the Waikaremoann scheme conies into operation the local reticula- ’ tion system can be connected without further expense.
