U.S.A. TARIFF BILL.

IMPORTERS APPEALING FOR DELAY. New York, Sept. 21. How 7 seriously business men will suffer under the new tariff is indicated in a telegram which the National Council ol American Importers has sent to President Harding asking him to delay his signature to the Tariff Bill, which thereafter would immediately become law. The telegram points out that the clothing group of the council will face losses of many thousands of dollars if the tariff becomes law before they are able to assure the entry at the present rates of goods en route to the United States, and adds that the group can ill afford to suffer this loss at the present time. It declares that many merchants in other lines of business are in the same predicament. —(A. and N.Z.) SIGNED BY PRESIDENT. (Received 22, 10.55 a.m.) Washington, Sept. 21. President Harding has signed the Tariff Bill.—(A. and N.Z.)
