PUKEHOU.

MRS. DON S ADDRESS. (Contributed.) Mrs. Don, Dominion president of the W.U.T.I ~ addressed a large gathering in the PuKehou Schoolroom on Friday, 15th inst., on prohibition. She took a retrospective view of the movement, and also expressed hopes tor the future. j>ne ppoke as an authority on the drink question, having had many years experience on charitable aid boards and as a visitor to the gaols in Dunedin, ihe speaker also referred to the amount of money spent on drink with absolutely nothing of any value to show ior it. lhe police report states that 7| millions in spent annually in drink hy the people of the Dominion, while a report given in the House of Pariament recently brought the amount up io nearly nine millions. Mrs. l)on was supported on the platform by Mrs. Monro, wife of the eRv. Monro, native clergyman of Rotorua. In a short address she made a telling appeal to her Pakeha brothers and sisters to -vote out the liquor at the coming poll on behalf of her own race who were denied the right of a vote. Mr. Loten, principal of Te Aute College, occupied the chair, and in a few words stated that in his younger days he was opposed to prohibition, but as the years went by became convinced that national prohibition was right, and he had, therefore, always voted for it since arriving in the Dominion. During the evening songs were sung by Mrs. Monro (an old favourite), Mrs. Campbell and Miss Moore, whose singing was much appreciated. A vote of thanks to the speaker and the singing of “God Save the King” brought a most enjoyable evening to a close.
