OTANE.

(Own Correspondent.) A fairly well attended meeting of residents was held i.’> the Town Hall on Saturday night at the invitation of the chairman of the Town Board, when the work undertaken by the board during the past two years was explained. The financial position was fully explained, and various questions were answered. The members stated that they were offering themselves for election again in the interests of the welfare and progress of the town, and that if elected they would use their best endeavours to raise a further Government loan for the building of workers homes. Messrs T. Bruce, B. Dennis, F. Williams and A. Watts, intending candidates, also spoke, the two former being in -favour of building further houses for workers, the two latter refusing to give an answer, stating that they might be in favour and they might not. Of the two other intending candidates, Mr H. McKay was present, but had to leave on account of feeling unwell and Mr C. Wedd was not present. The principal gnevancc expressed by <i section of the community against the old board,, was their action in building workers homes, or rather in advancing money to build houses on the security of the section and improvements alone.
