“THE INVISIBLE EYE."

A MOTHER TRAPPED AND FLOGGED. OUTRAGE BY TEXAS WOMEN. New York, Sept. 13. At Fort Worth, Texas, Mrs I. C. Lathum is lying in a serious condition as a result of an extraordinary flogging administered by four women—one masked. According to the victim’s story she was invited to go for a motor ride by the women, who promised to take her to see her daughter, who had been injured. Reaching a lonely spot the women seized, stripped and flogged her, giving her 100 lashes, and telling her that they were a committee of ladies of the Invisible Eye, who meant to punish her for alleged mal-treatment of her daughter. After leaving her, the attackers sent notes to newspaper offices informing them of the deed. —(A. and N.Z.) .
