TONGARIRO NATIONAL PARK.
BOUNDARY EXTENSION SOUGHT. (Special to “Tribune.”) Parliament Buildings, Sept. 14. A deputation representing the New Zealand Institute, Forestry League, Tararua Tramping Club. Sports Protection League, and Ruapehu Ski Chib, asked the Prime Minister to-day to extend the boundaries of the Tongariro National Park, and set up a board of control, or to transfer the park to the control of the Forestry Department. The park now totals 62,300 acres, and the deputation proposed an addition of 105,750 acres. Mr. Massey said the proposal met with his approval. He thought a board of control should be set up, but did not think there was any sense in including timber in the area, as the demand was so great that it would be impossible to retain it. He had no hesitation in saying that the request would be complied with, but he could not give them forest and settlement lands.
