TAKAPAU CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
The annual meeting of the Takapau Caledonian Society was held on Friday evening, when Sir George Hunter, M.P., presided over a large attendance of /members. The report and balancesheet, both of an eminently satisfactory nature, were read by the secretary, Mr W. Cuthbertson, and adopted. A vote of condolence to the widow and relatives of the late Mr J. H. Morrison was moved by the chairman and carried in the usual manner. It was decided to donate a seat to be placed in the Soldiers’ Memorial site. Messrs J. Scott and Finlay Morrison were elected life members of the society. It was decided to recommend to the directors that events for the encouragement of juvenile dancing should be added to the programme. The matter of fixing a date for the annual gathering was left to the incoming committee. Messrs H. A. Speedy and W. Cuthbertson were appointed as delegates to the Hawke’s Bay Athletic Association. The following notices of motion brought forward by Mr Aldrich were discussed. Numbers 4 and 5 were withdrawn, and 1,2, and 3 were moved as recommendations to the directors, proposed by Mr A. S. Aldrich and seconded by Mr W. Little that: —
“I.—A minimum weight should be carried by horses in the Hunters’ Competition. 2.—A minimum weight should be carried in the Maiden.
3. —All horses competing should be the bona fide property of the person making the entry. 4. —No age limit in the age of riders in the pony events. 5. —A maiden horse be one that has never won a competition. ’ ’ Votes of thanks were accorded to the following donors:—Sir George Hunter, Messrs W. After the business of the meeting was finished an adjournment was made to the supper-room, where members were entertained by the president, Sir G. Hunter. In the course of moving a vote of thanks to the host mention was made of the Soldiers’ Memorial, and Sir George Hunter kindly offered to donate a Union Jack for a flag staff to be erected.
