SAILING CLUB.
ANNUAL SMOKE CONCERT. PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. A pleasant function was held in Scindo Hall, Napier, last evening when the Sailing Club members held their annual smoke concert and prize-giving for the past season. Mr. J. V. Brown., M.P., presided, as commodore of the club, and the members were present at his invitation. The prizes were won by the f olio win g| and were presented by the chairman: —
Challenge Cup.—First heat: N. Gillies (Meteor) 1, G. Anderson (Maroondnh) 2, W. Anderson (Illinoic) 3. Second heat: A. H. McCarthy (Ngaroma) 1, N. Gillies 2, W. Anderson 3. Third heat: L. Turville (Colleen) 1, A. H. McCarthy 2, N. Gillies 3. Final: N. Gillies 1. Victoria Cup.—First heat: C. White (Nyanza) 1, S. Gillies 2. Second heat: N. Gillies 1, W. Anderson 2, A. Taylor (Maroondah) 3. Third heat: W. Anderson 1, N. Gillies 2. Final: N. Gillies.
Burton Cruising Cup and Medals.— J. V. Brown’s Meteor, sailed by N. Gillies. Silver medals: N. Gillies, S. Gillies, G. McGregor, O. Salainonson. Fulton Cup.—N. Lowe and L- Tur4’ille (Colleen). Mardi Gras Aquatic Prizes. —L. Turville (Colleen) 1, N. Harston (Ngaroma) 2, S. Gillies (Nganza) 3. The commodore carried off three of the fbur cups of the season. The handicapper stated he had not been able to Imndicap the yacht out of it. It and the crew had proved too much for him. During the evening items were given by Messrs. T. Fletcher, B. Sutton, H. Vanderspeck, J. Biss, Crabtree, and members of the Frivolity Minstrels. An excellent supper was laid out.
