SCHOOLS CHALLENGE GAMES. PORT AHURIRI A (6) v. HASTINGS WEST A (5). At Napier South playground on Saturday morning Port Ahuriri A team, winners of the Napier competition. Played a cnailenge game with. Hastings West* winners of the Hastings section, for the championship Play was strenuous from the toss up, and two very hard spells were fought by the contesting girls. Hastings centre girls were more nippy than /heir opponents, and by clever passing fed their attackers. The Port defenders, however, played excellently and repeatedly beV. off attacks.* This spell was characterised .by some good passing, particularly by the Hastings team. Before half-time was called Miss Sands tossed a goal for Hastings and Miss M. Fenn for the Port, the first spell ending two points alj. The second spell opened with Port maying better than their opporerts Despite this Miss F. Baird tossed a goal for Hastings, the score now being Hastings 4 points. Port 2. Port by splendid passing enabled Miss M. Fenn to score, again, making the score even. From a free throw Miss M. scored a eoal for Hastings. giving .that team a lead of one point. With about two minutes to go Rort by good combined play scored another goal, tossed by Miss Stella Rea. and a good game ended in favour of Port by one point. Final: Port Ahuriri 6 points. Hastings West 5 points Miss V. Webb ably controlled the game.
