HASTINGS ABATTOIRS.
[TO THB BDITOB. 1 Sir.—l notice in a report of last council meeting that the council decided to offer the killing for tlie coining year at the abattoirs to the present contractors at last year’s rates provided the contractors were agreeable. Now. I have always understood that where any amount o'er £lOO was concerned the council were obliged to call tenders for same and as this contract probably runs into about £5OO per year it seems rather strange that' our council should depart from their rules and commit themselves without calling tenders for this lucrative job. I understand the prices paid for killing at our abattoirs are very much higher and in some cases double the prices paid at the freezing works, and, considering this, I think it only right that tenders should be called for the position and all capable butchers given a chance of getting the contract, as well as possibly effecting a saving to the community. I have ho personal interest in this matter, but feel sure some of those concerned will take the matter up and push for their rights.—l am, NO BUTCHER. Hastings, 30/10/16.
