HASTINGS MUNICIPAL CHAMBERS.

[TO THI gDITOB.] Sir, —Seeing that the buildings ere nearing completion, we trust, w hen the time comes to call tender, for the furnishing of the offices, that the council will stipulate that the tenders of bona fide Hastings men only will be accepted. This would mean that the furniture, etc. (which Hastings ratepayers would pay for), will be the production of Hastings labour and that our own manufacturers only will be allowed to supply. We are always too prone to let orders of all sorts slip outside, to the injustice of those who pay heavy rates and taxes and who always have an open purse for all charitable and patriotic causes. Especially now should we tighten this string and support all those who employ labour here, not only in this matter, but in everything pertaining to keep the trade in our own town. The thought of circulation of the money should have some weight with the councillors in this matter. —1 am., etc., RATEPAYER.
