BARNARDO SATURDAY FUND.

[to ths MDrroß.l Sir, —I hope you can spaare a few lines in your columns that we may express our gratitude to the many, friends—collectors and donors alike —whose efforts in the recent street collections in Napier and Hastings results in such a splendid gift to Dr. Barnardo’s Homes. Napier’s contribution of £153 is more than double the average of the collections held there in pre-war years. If for the purpose of comparison, the heavy increase in the cost of living be ignored, the £153 suffices to maintain seven little “handy men” in our Naval Training School for a year (at a cost of £2O each) to support a “boarded-out” bov or girl for a like period. Our thanks are also due to the kcal newspapers for the prominence they gave to our announcements concerning the collections, and to the “Mitey Minstrels” for their kind and thoughtful aid, whilst the zeal and energy bf Mr. and Mrs. McKay were invaluable to our local hon. secretary in Napier, Miss May Hunter. | fo the amount collected for the Barnado Saturday Fund in Hastings must be added about £34 contributed by the Barnado enthusiasts in the Stortford Mission. We are equally indebted to the collectors and joint hon. secretaries (Misses E. Nicholls and Nellie Ford), who carried out the efforts in Hastings. —1 am, etc., H. W. LEE, Organising Secretary in N.Z. Wellington, 28/10/16.
