EXPEDITIONARY FORCES.
PUBLIC FAREWELL. Wellington, Sept. 24. The Wellington section of the N.Z. Expeditionary Force and national units which have assembled here from all parts of New Zealand are being officially farewelled at Newton Park this afternoon. The whole of the schools have been closed and most of the business places are observing a half-holiday, with the result that the attendance of the public is very large. The wea - ther is dull and threatening. The scene is a very impressive one. ST, JOHN AMBULANCE CORPS ENROLMENT FOR ACTIVE SERVICE. APPLICATIONS™ be SENT TO CENTRES. The following memorandum has been received by the Napier division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade from Colonel Barclay, Deputy Com missioner: “Complaints having been made that inconvenience was the cause of members not being able to enrol in the Field Ambulance of the Expeditionary Force at their own place, of residence. I made representations on this matter, and I am now advised by the. Director for Medical Services that it will be impossible to alter the existing regulations with regard to appointing centres other than the four leading ones. Please, therefore, advise all members of the ambulance division in your district who wish to volunteer for the reinforcements. that they should apply bv letter, if necessary, to the Recording Officer for the I leld Ambulance at the nearest centre.
