PRIZES IN THE ATLANTIC. ARMED CRUISER AND TWO COLLIERS. The High Commissioner reports :— London. Sept. 23, 2.30 a.m. OFFICIAL.—The Berwick, operating in North Atlantic waters, has reported that she captured the German Hamburg-Amerika liner Spreewald. known to be fitted as an armoured merchant cruiser. At the same time two co Tiers were captured with coal for Atlantic waters. The vessels between them had 6000 tons of coal and 182 tons of provisions. PROFIT AND LOSS ACCOUNT. The total number of German vessels captured by British vessels at sea or by British port authorities amounts to 92. in addition to 96 German vessels detained in British ports on the outbreak of war, making a total of IS7 German vessels in our possession. Seventy British vessels were detained in German ports on the outbreak of war. and since then 12 British sea-going vessels have been captured or sunk at sea out of 4000 British vessels carrying on the overseas trade. WHEAT AND FLOUR EXPORT FORBIDDEN (Received 24. 10.45 a.m.) Melbourne. Sept. 24. A proclamation has been gazetted prohibiting the export of wheat and flour. Another forbids the export of meat, revoking the previous proclamation limiting export to the Dominions. RUSSIA’S CAPTURES.
(Received 2-1, 10.15 a.m.) London, Sept. 23._ Seventy-three German and thirteen Austrian vessels which have been detained or captured in Russia are gazetted.
