NAPIER WEST SCHOOL.

The monthly meeting of the Napier I West School Committee was held; last evening. Present: Messrs. R. ■ C. Runciman (chairman), G. W. ■ Venables, S. Bendall, P. Bartlett, i Stevens, Cameron, and Crawford. | The headmaster reported that the < attendance was 273, the average : being 248. Miss McAlister returned on July 20th, and Miss Duncan, relieving teacher, subsequently left. ■ He also outlined the work done on; Arbour Day. Miss D. K. Heritage, ■ physical instructress, had visited the; school, and expressed herself satis-: fled with the way the work had been i carried out. Fifteen new single; desks had been fitted in the school! and hyioplate had been placed on \ the walls in the infant’s room. Per-j sons using Nelson Park on Satur-| days had trespassed on the school! grounds and used the conveniences.: Various means of raising funds for; the school were turning out well. | A circular was received from the i Gisborne School Committee asking: this committee to support them in; their grievance against the Education! Board.—lt was decided that as the| committee w-as not in possession of; sufficient facts to enable them to' judge whether the Gisborne Com-! mittee were in the right, it could j take no action. [ Messrs. Bendall and Runeiman 5 were appointed visiting committee for the ensuing month.
