Minnett Jephson J. T. Matthews Brown W. Carkeek Newman D. Smith Sproit W. J. Whitty Mead E. R. Mayne C. B. Jennings Sprott won the toss and decided to bat. Minnett and Emery were entrusted with the bowling. _ | Hampshire made a good showing. Bcwell lost his wicket to a lull,, toss from Emery. The batsman was at the wickets for’lB minutes. Stone was taken by* Carkeek at the wicket. Handing well back to Minnett. Two for -10. Hampshire then scored steadfly and the fifty was hoisted in 30 minutes, and the century in 55 ram-j utes. Fry was at the wickets for 33 minutes and hit 21 runs. Barrett was the fourth batsman out. and then Mead, who went m when one wicket had fallen .and Jephson become associated. The partnership added 95. Jephson gave a splendid all round displav and his cricket was faultier. He'bailed for an hour. ’ and his hits included eleven fours. Mead gave a brilliant exhibition, hitting al! round the wicket. His cutting .yid driving were excellent. The century was hoisted in 140 minutes. The Australian fielding was excellent.
