Wairoa, April 15. Mr. Leslie H. Reynolds, the Wairoa Harbour Board engineer, leaves here at once for Okarito, south of Hokitika, to investigate the famous five mile beach, and advise on the development and best means of saving gold on. the auriferous beaches of the "West Coast of the South Island. He is fairly confident he will solve the problem. The first pile of the harbour works will be driven the second week in May. Sir James Carroll has been selected for the honour in consideration of his long and faithful service to his birthplace. Ministers and other notabilities will be invited. Mr. Joseph Corkill. Mayor of Wairoa, has been returned unopposed for a second term. Mr. Thompson, of Thompson, Payne’s pictures, is at Waikaremoana cincmatographing scenery for Pathe Freres, Paris. He states the scenery is grander and more superioi than anything he has ever seen, and he will take away the best film material ever got. Mr. Thompson is charmed with the beauty spots of Waikaremoana and says that when opened up by the East Coast railway the district will have a great future. Up to Sunday there has been idea] weather for deer stalking.
