SWIMMING

LONG DISTANCE SWIMMING. AT MADDISON BATHS, HASTINGS. During the last day 7 or two, at the Hastings District High School Baths, (Mr. L. F. Pegler has been supervising the long distance swimming for which certificates are granted by the N.Z.A.S.A. The water was somewhat cold for the competitions, being under 60 degrees, and this considerably reduced the distance hoped for. The following are the results : — Heretaunga Boys’ School.—R. Mason, 1 mile, J. Lowry 900yds., C. Fenwicke 650, D. Gregorie 500, T. Toswill 500, C. McNiven 350, F. Georgie 225.

Hastings District High School (Girls). —Alice Corbin 2 miles 330yds. (record for baths), Mabel Peakman 900.yd5., Lizzie Pepper 900, Marjorie Rosenberg 550, Jessie Jones 55Q, Eileen Clarkson 225, Tottie Gilmore 200, Freda Robinson 200, Lileth Smith 120, Margaret Blackert 100. Hastings D.S.S. (Boys).—Frank Allen 900yds., William Monteith 900, Dick Ellingham 800, Keith Watson 800, Colin Anderson 800, William West 750, Hector Thomson 550, Alfred Barpies 500, Oswald Sands 500, Tom Chadwick 500, James Rosenborg 450, Herbert Kershaw 450, Frank Chapman 250. For a learner’s certificate, a swim of 100yds. is required ; for a secondclass, 220y-ds. ; for a first-class 440 yds. Those who swim more than the laot named, have the distance inscribed on special certificates.

AT NAPIER MUNICIPAL BATHS. Yesterday morning the following boys from the Napier Alain School swum for long distance certificates issued by the New Zealand Swimming Association : —Thomas Kara 11 mile, R. Cogswell 1333yd5., G.
