MEETINGS, SOCIALS, ETC.

ST. AUGUSTINE’S RECREATION CLUB.

An interesting and enjoyable gymnastic display and concert was given by members of the St. Augustine’s Recreation Club in St. Augustine’s schoolroom, Napier, last evening. The gymnastic display, which included Swedist, dumbell and club exercises, showed that under their instructress, Miss M. McCarthy, the class has made very rapid progress. The several exercises were remarkably well executed. The musical portion of the programme was particularly good. The numbers included songs by Mrs. Sweetapple and Messrs. F. Cordingly and A. Johnston. Recitations were given by Miss Halpin and Mr. G. Remington. A violin and piano duet by Miss Butcher and Mr. Bowman proved a most acceptable item. Miss M. Woodcock w r as a capable accompanist, The entertainment was admirably arranged, and in this connection the secretary. Miss M. McCarthy, deserves great credit.
