DANNEVIRKE JOCKEY CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. [by TELEOBATH. —SPECIAL TO HERALD.] DANNEVIRKE, Tuesday. The Dannevirke Jockey Club’s annual meeting commenced tins morning on the Tamaki course. The weather during the past week had not been of the best, and considerable anxiety was felt as to whether the club would be favoured with a fine day. Luckily, however, the morning broke clear. From an early hour country people began to arrive, and each train brought a fresh crowd of visitors. The Town Band was in attendance. The course was in capital order, and the racing proved the excellence of Mr Henrys’ handicapping, most of the events being well contested, though Mr Hartgill, Who occupied tlie judge's box, had not to adjudicate upon any very close firiishes. The secretary, Mr J. Spiers Freeman, had made admirable arrangeihe'ntsi and undoubtedly much of the success of .Hid meeting is due to his efforts. The sum .of £5339 was invested on the totalisatbfs, WSrkfid by Messrs Cohen, Marett and Fox, as against £3628 tor the first day last year. At present the weather promises fine for to-morrow.
