ELECTRICAL POWER.

[bt teleqp.aph.J Chbistohueoh, Monday. The City Council passed a motion that in its opinion the time has come when steps should be taken to acquire land from the Bank of New Zealand to widen the Colombo-street corner, owing to the growth of traffic at that spot. There is a feeling among some people that some scheme to obtain power for electric lighting and traction from the Waimakanri rivet should bo discarded in favor of one dealing with steam, many citizens being somewhat discouraged at the fact that the Waimakariri scheme has been bung up for at least a year. The Council has decided to obtain information in regard to establishing an electrical plant in connection with the destructor now in course of construction. It is stated that it this could be carried out there will be sufficient power to light the whole city and streets, and have something to spare.
