HAWKE'S BAT JOCKEY CLUB.
THE PUBLICATION OF DEFAULTERS' NAMES.
The monthly committee meeting of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club was held yesterday, at the Criterion Hotel, Napier. Present— Hon. J. D, Ormond (chairman), Messrs Q-. P. Donnelly, P. Logan, G-. L. Sunderland, L. de Pelichet, and J. H. Coleman.
THE BBACELET.
The Goldsmiths' and Silvefcamithß* Company -yifrote stating that the v order for the bracelet and necklace had. been received, and would shortly be shipped.
THE UNPAID FORFEIT LIST.
The Waipawa County Racing Club wrote! asking why an owner's name had not appeared in the unpaid forfeit list for 420, due under rule 124. A telegram was reoeived from the editor of the Beferee to the effeot that the owner in question had threatened an action for libel if they published his name in the forfeit list, and asking whether the blub would hold the Beferee harmless.It was resolved to send the following reply : —
Hawke's Bay Jookey Club, Napier, N.Z., sth May, 1899. The Editor " N.Z., Eeferee," Christchurch. Dear Sir,— ln reply to your wire of 25th ult„ my committee has passed the following resolution: — " The committee of tho Hawke's Bay Jockey Club regrets that the 'Beferee' has failed to publish a decision oome to under the Bules of Hoeing, and sent to it for publication, bat under compulsion of your telegram requiring indemnity this club agrees to indemnify you, provided this club has the conduct of the defence of any proceedings that may be taken." Tour raising such a question will necessitate the submitting to tbe conference of the position of the "Referee" as the medium of communication by the racing clubs of New Zealand. The secretary having been absent from Napier was the cause of delay in answering your telegram.— Yours truly, P. D. Luc_iE, Seoretary.
It was resolved that the whole of the faots be set out and sent to the secretary of the Conference.

Transfers of horses from Mr L. D. Nathan to the purchasers were approved. Trainers' licenses were granted to David Munn and Ratana.
Gentlemen riders' certificates were granted to Messrs George Heslop, jun., and Percy Ellingham. The date of the spring meeting was fixed for Wednesday and Thursday, 4th and 6th Ootober.
It was resolved to write to the Waipukurau Jockey Club, asking how it came about that the conditions "of the Welter Handicap at their late meeting were altered fron} the programme submitted and approved, by the insertion of the words "allowed 71b" after the words " gentlemen riders.*" It was also resolved that as there was an error in the programme any disabilities attaching to the gentlemen who rode in that race be removed.
The application for the use of the course by the Hawke's Bay Hunt Club for the 26th July was granted.
