GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLECHASE MEETING.
(by telegraph. ) Chbistchubch, Wednesday. The weather to-day was beautifully fine for the Grand National Steeplechase, and the attendance at the racecourse was very large. Eight went to the post for the principal event of the meeting, the Grand National Handicap. Sailor Boy and Quamby had the call in the betting from Clarence, the only other backed to any extent being Why Not, who however, refused early in the r?ce. Sailor Boy broke down shortly after tho first mile was covered, and at the end of three miles only Mousetrap, Quamby, Clarence, and Katerfelto were in it, the last-named having the lead nearly all the way. Mousetrap was first in trouble, aud Quamby, Clarence, and Katerfelto rose togother at the last fence. Quamby soon had enough, and a great race home between Katerfelto and Clarence ended in the outsider winning by a head. The winner was trained by Dan O'Brien. Eight weighed out for the Maiden Plate. Trovatore, who had the assistance in the saddle of O'Brien, was looked npon as a good thing, though Rocket and Canard received plenty of support. The latter led all the way, and won easily from Overdraft, with Rocket a bad third. The*- Hunt Club Cup was a \ gift to Clarence, who received 71b allowance for a gentleman rider. The-Cohso-
