Kaponga Institute Meeting

Funds From “Bring and Buy”

For the monthly meeting of the Kaponga Women’s Institute on Tuesday afternoon there was a good attendance of members and the president (Mrs H, D. Dagg) occupied the chair. A vote of sympathy was accorded Mrs P. Harding in her recent bereavement. Mrs C. H. Brewer, delegate to the recent conference of women’s institutes held at Auckland, gave an interesting resume of the work of the conference. It was decided, to hold a display of floral work and arts and crafts at the September monthly meeting. Mrs Farquhar, jun., Awatuna, gave a most interesting demonstration of art silk work and displayed some beautifully finished articles. A “bring and buy” stall in charge of Mesdames T. Bennie and C. Thurston was most successful and resulted in a welcome addition to the funds. A large number of peggy squares were donated by members. The monthly competition was for n sultana cake and was won by Mrs G. Lewis, Mrs L. Rountree being second. In an amusing competition, organised by Miss M. Guy, Mrs H. J. Blackwell and the Misses D. Templeton and J. Betts tied, Miss Templeton winning the draw. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames N. O. Davies, A- E- Jackson and It. C. Webb.
