WOOL MARKET HARDENING

PRICES ADVANCE AT WANGANUI CRUTOHINGS IN. DEMAND. (By Telegraph—Presß Association,) WANGANiUI, Aug. 21. The recent hardening tendency in the wool market was maintained at the Wanganui erutchings sale to-night. An all-round advance, 1-Jd, was disclosed in comparison with the prices ruling at the last auction here in April. There was a good demand for crutehings which sold at rates slightly firmer than at- Wellington. This type of wool, which is suitable for the carpetmaking industry, suited the American trade.

Fleece wool, which comprised a third of the total’ offering, was erratic of sale, but good quality wools free from seed were ljd better than in April. Medium and seedy wools were hard to quit. Xb was a good sale for erutchings and all wools suitable for scouring. , The Farmers’ Co-op. reported that there was a total offering of 3348 bales, the firm’s catalogue comprising 279 bales. There was a fairly representative bench of buyers for a winter sale. Crutchings sold well up to expectations, but. prices for. fleece and lambs’ wool were disappointing, owing to very few buyers having orders for this class of wool..
