DEPARTURE FOR AUCKLAND
MR. A. K. NORTH LEAVES HAWERA Mr A*. K. North, L.L.M., of the Hawera legal firm of Messrs Horner and North, has accepted an invitation to join the Auckland firm of Messrs Earle, Kent, Massey and Northcroft, to take the place of Mr E. H. Northcroft, who has been elevated to the Supreme Court Bench. During the eight years be has spent in Hawera, Mr North has attained a prominent .position in his profession, having-been briefed as counsel a large number of important cases emanating from Taranaki. Litigation in which he has been concerned includes the South Taranaki Electric-power arbitration, and appeal cases arising out of claims for damages. He was retained as counsel by the Taranaki Maoris to appear before the Native Affairs Commission, and by several dairy companies to appear before tbc Dairy Commission last year, whilst he was also briefed in the recent litigation arising out of the settlement of rents for the West Coast Native Reserves.
Mr North came to Hawera early in 1927 to join the firm of Messrs Halliwell, Thomson, Horner and North, consequent upon the retirement of Mr C. Spratt, who is now in practice in Wellington. Three years ago the Hawera legal firm was reconstructed and has since been carried on by Messrs F. W. Horner and A. K. North, under their own names. During liis eight years’, residence in Hawera Mr North has been prominent in local affairs, having been a member of the Hawera Borough Council for six years and taking an active share in the affairs of the community generally. He is a member of the Hawera Rotary Club and the Hawera Golf Club.
Mr North will join his new firm at Auckland at the end of the month. The announcement of the name of his successor in the Hawera firm will be, it is understood, made shortly.
