MR. COATES TO VISIT LONDON

MEAT TRADE NEGOTIATIONS. DELEGATION FROM BOARD. There is now a very clear indication of the Minister of Finance, Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, leaving for London next month to discuss with the British authorities the meat problem as it vitally affects New Zealand. An official statement on the subject is expected soon. Mr Coates probably will depart from Auckland by the Rangitane on April 13, which would enable him to reach England about May 15. The Meat Board, -which recently passed a resolution urging that Mr Coates should go to London, has decided to send a delegation comprising its deputy-chairman, Mr T. A. Duncan, and the general manager, Mr J. Fraser. It had been suggested that they would sail in the Aorangi from Auckland with the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. G. "W. Forbes; but if Mr Coates decides to go, the Meat Board delegation may now accompany him by .the Rangitane.

It is understood that if Mr Coates should be. unable to sail by the Rangitane, he will consider an alternative plan for sailing from Wellington by the Makura on April 16 and flying across the United States. Owing to the King’s Jubilee functions it is not expected there will be a full opportunity for arranging discussions on the meat question before the third week inMay.
