Work will begin within a few months on new fortifications at North Head to provide additional protection for Sydney Harbour and at the entrances ,to Newcastle and Darwin.
It is understood that nine-inch guns are expected to reach Australia from England before the end of the year. The new fortifications form part of the Federal Government’s policy for the strengthening of the coastal defences of the Commonwealth.
