ATTEMPT TO POISON FAMILY
PENAL SERVITUDE FOR- LIFE SENTENCE lAIPOSED ON YOUTH (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright) SYDNEY, March 5. Leslie Eldred Keen, a.ged 18, was to-day sentenced at Woolongong to penal servitude for life for having attempted to cause poison to be taken by Cecil L. Ulrich at Kerry with intent to murder.
It was stated in evidence that Ulrich tasted porridge at Lreakfast, and after remarking that it,' had a bitter flavour warned his family not to eat it. The porridge was .given to two dogs, which died. From the dock Keene* said lie knew the poison was bitter an cl that it would bo impossible to swallow- He only intended to frighten the Ulriches. The jury recommended Koone to he placeel under observation-.. The judge said that :jf any report were made which favoured Keene it would be for the Governor and the Executive Council to take wliat action they thought fit, but he could not take other than a serious view of a man who was prepared to administer poison to three innocent persons and see them die in agony.
