ARRANGEMENTS FORi MEETING. APPOINTMENT OF OFFICIALS. A large and enthusiastic meeting dealt with the final arrangements in connection with the forthcoming Caledonian Sports, to be held at Manaia on Wednesday, January 23. The following officials, some appointed. by the Taranaki executive at Stratford,' and some by the local committee, were approved and a list handed to the joint secretaries for inclusion in the programme to be issued on the day of the Sports; Piping judge, Mr. S. Clothier (Hamilton) ; dancing judge, Mrs. J. Braid, Hawera; entry tier Mr. L. A. Taylor; piping .stewards, Messrs C. Bowman, W. Johnston. S. Agnew, and R. Skinner ; dancing stewards, Messrs W. Marr and D. Wards; visitors’ committee, Messrs G. C. Harrison, J. S. McKay, W. .Snowdon, E. 'J'. Burke and E. Long; announcer and marshall. Mr. J. 11. Nairn; chief drum major, Major L. M. Pairbrotlier; chain stopping steward, Mr. J. Russell; caber and putting the shot, Mr. T. Patterson ; cycling events, referee and track judge, Mr. L. Clapham; liandicappor, Mr. Leo Marter; starter, Mr J. O’Dea; cycling steward, Mr. A. J. Clare; grounds steward, Mr. H. Mead; secretaries, Messrs J- Rodic and Ri. L. Bennett. The meeting resolved to approach the Manaia Town Board with a view to obtaining the assistance of the Automobile Association in controlling traffic at the grounds. The reports of the danc-c committee and the track committee were received and these reports were approved as being highly satisfactory. The secretaries reported that applications for programmes had been received from all parts of New Zealand, and many prominent pipers from the North as well as the South Island could be exnected. Hearty votes of thanks were acj corded to Mr Nairn Tor his offer of two medals for a Highland Fling event for- children 12 years and under and for his generous assistance in preparing the grounds; to Mr Clapham for his work in collection with the track and to Mr Simmons for the manner in which he had helped to advertise the sports. At the dance committee meeting Airs T. Sutherland was appointed supperroom supervisor, and Mrs. Winters was placed in charge of the deflorations Generous donations were accepted from Mrs. Sutherland, Messrs Skinner. MacLeod and Walters, also Miss Johnson. An additional handicap lias been made for the cycling events. W. Ireland will receive handicaps of 60yds. 220yds, 310vds and 400yds in the halfmile, one mile, two mile and three mile e v or *s respectively.
