Auckland Lose Three for 124 at Luncheon Adjournment
MATCH AGAINST WELLINGTON i WHITELAW UNBEATEN AT 44 (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, To-day. The weather was dull and hot for the Plunket Shield match and the wicket was hard. Auckland won the toss and batted first. Blundell appealed unsuccessfully for l.h.w. against Whitelaw with the first ball of the match and in the second over Trieklebank I eat the same batsman with a good length ball that skimmed past the leg stump. Trieklebank, with the wind oe raid him, was a little faster than Blundell, but the latter was swinging and his first four overs were maidens. In the next he got- Mills with a slower ball which turned from the leg.—ls—l —4 Weir followed and played out the over, which was also a maiden. The Wellington attack was changed after Trieklebank had sent down six overs for 16 runs. Morgan, a slow break bowler, replaced him, but after two overs lie was succeeded by Lamason.
The next change, which came after an hour’s play, was fruitful. Blundell handed the ball to Griffiths, whose first ball turned from leg to beat Weir. 1 indill whipped off the bails, but the batsman was in the crease. The next ball also turned a little and Weir snicked it into tho wicketkeeper’s Sm&rtto.—49—2—lß. At the luncheon adjournment Auckland had lost three for 124. White-law was not out with 44 and S ivian made 31. , Vivian and Whitelaw hatted more confidently, especially when Griffiths began to over-pitch his deliveries. Vivian scored six boundaries in a total of 31 and equalled Whitelaw’s score after 30 minutes. However, his innings was cut short- when Blundell, after pitching several just- off the leg stump, sent down a straight one and got a leg before decision.—B8 —3—31. Townsend, a newcomer, soon got into his stride and punished Griffiths. The hundred appeared after 99 minutes. The former Aucklander, McLleod, was then brought on to replace Griffiths, while Trieklebank replaced Blundell. This moderated Townsend’s scoring.

Marylebone in the second innings against Trinidad made 200 for six wickets and declared (Townsend 4£, Leyland not out 77, Hammond 25, Ames not out 21. . Trinidad in the second innings were eioht for 159 (Merry 49, Constantine 25” G. Grant 35, R. Grant 35, Smith four for 43). The match was drawn.
