KAPONGA HOCKEY CLUB
COMPLIMENTARY DINNER. FAREWELL TO RETIRING PRESIDENT. A complimentary dinner was tendered to Mrs W. Carrington by members of the .Tvaponga Ladies’ Hockey Club on Wednesday evening, prior to her departure from the district. The dinner, which was held at Mrs Siddells’ dining rooms, was attended by about 20 past and present members of the club, of which Mrs Carrington was president. Following the loyal toast Miss Hilda Guy (club secretary) proposed the toast of the guest of the evening. Miss Guy referred to the happy relations which had existed between Mrs Carrington as a player and as an official and the club members. She first joined the club as a. playing member in 1931 and later became a vice-president. Last year, when Mrs Tait retired from the presidency, Mrs Carrington was elected to that position. She had been a staunch supporter of the club and had spared no eltort in promoting its interests. In asking Mrs Carrington to accept a. rose howl as a small token of the members’ appreciation .Miss Guy wished Mrs Carrington .every good wish for the future.
On rising to respond Mrs Carrington was loudly applauded. She thanked the members for their gift- and their kindly expressions of goodwill and said she appreciated the honour they had accorded her. She had been deeply interested in the club and its wellare and was sorry to be severing her happy associations with it. ’At the conclusion of the dinner a pleasant hour's conversazione took place and the function terminated with the singing of “For She’s a- .Tolly Good Fellow.” A vote of thanks to Mrs Siddells for her hospitality was passed.
