AFTER THE VACATION

MINISTERS RETURN TO WORK. RESUMPTION NEXT WEEK. The Christinas and New Year vacation enjoyed by Ministers pf the Crown after the arduous duties of the session will come to an end in the majority of cases at the end of this week, the usual routine work being resumed nexi Tuesday. During the holiday period Parliament Buildings have been very quiet although Ministers’ private secretaries have attended to routine duties and the Minister of Justice and Defence (the Hon. J. G. Cobbe) has visited Wellington from time to time to sign important papers. The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. G. \Y. Forbes), who lias spent his holiday at his home at Cheviot, will return to Wellington on Tuesday morning. Advice has not yet been received as to when the Minister of Finance (the Hon. J. G. Coates) will return. The Minister of Public Works (the Hon. J. Bitchener) will arrive early next week, probably with the Prime Minister on Tuesday morning; the Minister of Lands (the Hon. E. A. Ransom) will reach Wellington on Monday night; the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. C. E. Macmillap) is also expected on Monday evening; and the Minister of Education (the Hon. S. G. Smith) and the Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. R. Masters), who have been on holiday at their homes in Taranaki, are expecting to arrive in the city on Monday evening. Mr Cobbe intends to return to his home in Feilding this evening, but will arrive in Wellington again on Monday. The Postmaster-General (the Hon. Adam Hamilton), who undewent an operation while the House was sitting and is taking as much rest as possible, is unlikely to come north until about the middle of the month. He will visit Dunedin on January 12 for the laying of the foundation-stone of the new Post Office there hy His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester .and he has engagements in the North Isiand later in the month.
