TWO CHINESE FINED

ILLEGAL STORE OF OPIUM. CHARGES AT CHRISTCHURCH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) . CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. Two Chinese, Fong Lee, a market gardener, aged 50, occupying premises at Marshlands, and Lay Sun, a market .gardener, agecl 26, were convicted on charges connected with, the illegal possession and storage of opium. Fong Lee for allowing premises to ho used for the storage of opium was fined £25 and given a month in which to pay. Lay Sun was charged with being found in illegal possession of opium and unlawfully smoking opium. The latter charge was dropped on the grounds that as no pipe was found, it was impossible to prove smoking. He was fined £25, witii 14 days in ■which to pay, in default three months’ imprisonment. Both men were convicted on similar charges on December 20, when Fong Lee was fined £IOO and Lay Sun £l2 10s.
