“It seems to me to be an amazing thing that two complete strangers can come into a town, tell a plausible story and through that obtain a blank local cheque form and then carry on filling it in for a certain amount, pass it on to unsuspecting businessmen and thus have it cashed,” said M. C. Gallagher at a meeting of the Waipukurau Chamber cif Commerce, when brief mention was made of the successful passing of a valueless cheque by a man and woman in Waipukurau last week. “I have raised this matter purely as a means of protecting the business people and of drawing attention to the dangerous practice lof giving cheque forms to complete strangers.” Mr Gallagher’s views were endorsed by/ several members.
