KAKARAMEA FLOWER SHOW

FUNDS FOR KNOX CHURCH. AFTERNOON"CONCERT PROGRAMME. A flower* show and cookery competition in aid of the Knox Church mission fund, was held in the Kakaramea Hall on Wednesday, and proved an unqualified success, a large number attending in spite of the bad weather. Great interest was taken in the blooms and also in the oookery competition, which proved most popular. The following were the winners of the various competitions: Flowers: Posies, 'Miss G. Hall 1 and 2; bowl of flowers, Miss Joan Illingworth 1, Mrs Carmichael 2; best collection of bulbs, Mrs Ptoffit 1, Mrs Herbert 2; table decorations, Mr® H. A. Sutherland 1; buttonholes, Miss M. Illingworth l/Mis© B. Illingworth 2. , _ .

■Cookery; Sjcones, MSes Cpuchman 1, Mrs' Sutherland 2; pikelets, Mrs R. Hunger 1, Miss A. Hall 2; gems, Miss L». Sutherland 1, Mrs J. M. Welsh 2; sponge with butter, Miss Cowie 1, Mrs Sutherland 2; sponge without butter, Miss Kettles 1, Miss Sutherland 2.

During the afternoon a short concert programme was contributed by the following : Mrs McDonald, song; army officers, yocal duet; the Rev. W. H. Wilson, recitation; Miss Cowie and Mrs F. Lund, songs. At the conclusion of the proceedings Mir H. A. Sutherland thanked all who had contributed items and helped with the competitions and in other ways assisted in making the function so successful. He particularly thanked Mrs W. F. Shield and Mrs G. Paterson, who had acted as judges of the flowers and cookery competitions respectively. Afternoon tea was handed round and later good business was done in the selling of cakes and flowers. Much interest was taken in a very fine display of Oriental linen by Mrs Hunter, the work of the natives being greatly admired. Many of the articles found a ready sale.
