After a retirement of 4-1 minutes the jury in the Supreme Court to-day returned a verdict of guilty against John Conway Murphy, a labourer aged 42, on a charge of attempting to murder Mr,s Daisy. Heimdal on the night of April 2- on the town belt. The evidence adduced was that Murphy attacked Mrs Heimdal with a span net- and a knife, inflicting severe injuries to her neck and breast, and afterward surrendered himself to the police, stating that lie had murdered a woman. Mr Justice Reed was on the Bench Mr P. S. K. Macassey conducted the case for the pros edition and Mr A. B. Croker appeared for Murphy. Two alternative charges of assault with attempt to do grievous bodily harm and of assault causing actual bodily harm were preferred also, but Murphv was found guilty on the major count,‘that of attempted murder. Murphy was remanded for sentence bv His Honour.
