SjCIH'OOiL COMMITTEE MONTHLY MEETING HELD (From Our Ovrn Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Kaponga School Committee was held at the school on Tuesday evening. The chairman, Mr IC. H. Brewer, presided and there were also present Messrs C. N. Gordge, H. C. Norgate, J. Taylforth, A. T. 'Honorc (headmaster) and the secretary. Correspondence was received from the Taranaki Education 'Board regarding the annual meetings of householders .to .be held at 7.30 p.m. on Monday,April 30, at which committees to hold office for the ensuing two years are to be elected. The headmaster reported that the roll number was '99, with an average attendance during the month of 95. 'The general health of the children was gribd. He was at present, negotiating for a supply of new books for the school library and hoped to have the books in the library at an early date. The visiting committee for March, Messrs Norgate and Gordge, reported having carried out an inspection when the school and grounds were found to be in good order. Blackberry on the boundary line had been cut back and the lawns were in splendid order. Two broken windows had been replaced and repairs had been effected to cisterns. The headmaster reported that a'gate post at the horse entrance was broken and the fence also required some attention.—lt was decided to do this work by a working bee during the coming week-end. Messrs Taylforth and Corder were appointed the visiting committee for April. The 'Taranaki Education Board reported that authority had been given for the installation of heating apparatus in the new front class room and it was expected this would ibe installed shortly. It was decided to apply for relief labour to clean -®up and burn blackberries and to attend to hedges. With regard to the dental clinic, the committee's representative, Mr J. Taylforth, reported /that about 10 eluldren had so far been attended to. Subscriptions for 2'B children had been paid. There were still a' Ifew subscriptions to be paid before the names of those concerned could be submitted to the nurse. A brief discussion took place on the cocoa club and it was unanimously decided to again carry on the club this coming winter, a start to be made after the May holidays. The secretary was instructed to appeal to parents on the lines of last year’s circular, which had brought a very gratifying response. The headmaster stated that the school football games would shortly be commencing and he would be glad to hear from parents and supporters who would be willing to assist with transport when matches were played outside Kaponga. The matches outside could be arranged so as to suit the convenience of those providing cars subject, of course, to the date fixed being suitable to the tehm to be played. 'GENERAL AiNiD PERSONAL! The street stall held by the Kaponga Ladies’ Hockey (Club was very successful, the clubs funds /being augmented by £5 14s 9d. Conducted by Mrs W. Carrington and assisted by members of the club, the stall found a ready sale for a good supply of items of culinary interest. A competition for a dinner was won by Mr C. Liibeau and that for a bottle of scent, finalised on Easter Saturday, was won by Mr E. Corbett, of Awatuna. Mrs Harris, of Taumarunui, is at present on a holiday visit to her daughter and son-in-law, Mrs and Mr A. D. Reid, iKuri Street, Kaponga. Mrs C. ISowry, o(f Westport, is at present visiting Kaponga and is the guest of Mrs A. ®. Bates. FIRE BRIGADE. The monthly meeting of the Kaponga Fire Brigade was field at y the fixe station on Tuesday evening, > when the Superintendent presided over a good attendance of members. Lengthy correspondence was received from the secretary of the New Zealand Fire-Brigades Association regarding Fire Prevention Week, which is being held this year from April 15 to 21. The brigade decided to carry out certain details in connection with the demonstration week. The superintendent gave an interesting address on the work of the recent provincial conference of - the Taranaki association. Mr G. Cuff was elected a member and the brigade is now at full strength.
