Otto entered a 24-foot torpedo-shaped steel projectile and was shot into the air with a deafening roar. Later Otto declared lie lost consciousness for a minute owing to the tremendous acceleration driving the blood from his head. The altimeter began to fall. “At 32,000 feet I opened the parachute attachment and began the descent,” he said.
