PACT WITH AUSTRALIA
ANNOUNCEMENT NEXT MONTH. HOPE TO' IMPROVE TRADE. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, Sept. 29. The nature of the trade agreement between Australia and New Zealand will be revealed simultaneously in. the Parliaments of the two countries on October 11. A statement to this effect was made to-night by the Minister of Customs, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coatee. A provisional agreement was made as the result of the visit to New Zealand by Senator (now Sir) W. Massy Greene, Assistant Treasurer for the Commonwealth of Australia. In April Sir William conferred with Mr Coates and Mr R. Masters, Minister of Industries and Commerce. It was subsequently stated that the agreement would have the effect of removing many misunderstandings and improving trade between the two countries. Both Governments have approved the agreement, but it cannot be brought into effect until it is ratified by both. Parliaments. It is necessary that the announcement of the details of the agreement should be made simultaneously in the two. countries, and six months’ delay in the ratification has been caused by the fact that both Parliaments, have not in the interim been in session at the same time.
