DIRECTION OF TEAMS. “TREATED LIKE BABIES.” (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) NEWPORT' (Rhode Is.), Sept. 22. In a statement published 1 orr Friday, given here on the Understanding that it was held until tihe end of his 19.13 campaign, which followed his defeat bv Tidball alt Los Angeles,. H. E. Vines, fo'mner American champion', dielclaTed:— “We were not good enough in, Paris to beat the English Daviis Gup but there were several' factors 'in the preparation of the team ■militating against success. For one thing, we were treated like babies. Ah tor the first act one night at a Paris theatre we were ! bundled out to our hotel' during tho j sizzling heat and were unable to sleep. I “The air of superseriousnetss that [ marked ail o.ur actions was depressing. Lott, Allison, Vain- Ryu and myself had been through cup play previously, and ! did not have to be convinced of it? seriousness. There were phalses of the training that was not in the best inter■esits of 'the team. The best plan for the XJni'td States- to- follow in 1934 is to soiact a man with a youthful viewpoint, possessing an iuternaltiomal background to direct the team.”
