HAWERA DRUIDS’ PICNIC

CROWDED EXCURSION TRAIN DAY AT NGAMOTU BEACH. Between 2CO and 300 Hawera U.A.-O.D. lodge brethren and friends participated in the Druids’ annual picnic at Ngamotu beach yesterday, the morning excursion train from Hawera to New Plymouth being crowded. Other lodge brethren were picked up at Nonnan-by and Elltham whjilst a large number of passengers joined the train at Stratford. The weather was fine and warm and on arrival at Nga motu the majority of the excursion'sts “took to the water” and found the surf ideal. The arrangements undertaken by the Hawera Druids’ picnic jommittee were carried out on most efficient lines and with the assistance of members of the Ngamotu Beach Committee the gathering was perhaps the most successful on record. Free milk, fruit, sweets and soft drinks were provided and the beach committee arranged for the supply of hot water and also the free use of the' dressing room facilities at the P'alsidium. No organised sports were held owing to the beach being crowded with other visitors, but during the day many of the picnickers visited the Port Wellington, the officers of which gave every facility for an inspection of the ship! Some of the children were .given a ride in the ship’s boat.
