SWIMMING CARNIVAL .

HAWERA CLUB ATTRACTION. CONTESTS ON THURSDAY. Keen interest is beino- shown in the coming carnival of the Hawera Swimming Club' on Thursday evening. Competition promises to be exceedingly keen. The championships at New Plymouth roused much enthusiasm, e.-peti-ai.lv as several records were broken find the times made in several cases are getting appreciably closer to the New Zealand figures. in the championships last week Hawera established a big lead, retaining the banner. The final of a further championship, the 440 yards, is one of the events on Thursday’s programme. The distance was swum last Friday at the Hawera Club evening and provided one of the best races ■ cen for several seasons and the contest of Thursday is being looked forward to with very keen interest. . A ver'v excellent all-round programme has been arranged by the rlawera Club’s executive and the evening should be one of the best seen for several seasons.'

Water polo is a most interesting sport to watch and it always draws the crowd. The display on Thursday promises to he of a high standard. Inglewood, in the Dalgleish Cup competitions has defeated Elthani and drawn with Hawera. The drawn game was Hawera’s onk- game this .season The meeting between and Hawera on Thursday should provide a ■v«o;t attractive exhibition of the game In addition to the men’s contest a game is to be nlayed between teams of New Plymouth and Hawera ladies.
