ACTIVITIES IN INDIA. ASSEMBLY SANCTIONS BUDGET. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 12. The Baptist Union Assembly to-day agreed that the budget for the coming year for the Baptist Missionary Society for work in East Bengal should be £6786. It. was decided also that at the earliest possible moment the hospital at Chandpu should be converted to an institution for female patients only. CHURCH FIRE INSURANCE. RESERVE FUND SUGGESTED. ‘CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 12. The Rev. L. B. Bustield reported for the lire insurance committee to the Baptist conference to-day that the profit for the year was £4,8 0s 10d and the fund totalled £ll2 19s lOd. 'The committee recommended the establishment of an insurance fund similar to that in existence in the Presbyterian and Methodist churches, the system to provide for the immediate re-insur-ing of all risks with a reputable insurance company. Mr Busfield said that if the churches would join the union insurance scheme they would be putting money into its special fund instead of into the pockets of private agents. With proper support it would he possible to build a strong reserve.
