LABOUR. DAY MATCHES

There were two matches played at Hawera yesterday between Saturday and Wednesday teams . and in each much good play was seen. In the first a combined Hawera Wednesday and Saturday- team played against School and Old Boys. The former were dismissed for the small total of 43 due to* the excellent bowling of Thrush, Sagar. Lendrum and M. Gray, all of whom secured good averages. J. Nielsen (9) and A. Stevens fl , not out) were the- best scorers. In their second innings, they made a remarkably good stand, totalling 153 before the last wicket fell. H. Hughes 43. Nielson 38, A. Stevens 26 and A Worrall 23 all batted well. H. Barker and Hayes, with four and' five respectively, did the bulk of the bowling. The School and Old Boys’ team did much better in their one innings IV Barker scoring 43, D. Buist 34 not out' and Thomas IQ. and their total being 124. Neilsen was the most successful iowler, securing four wickets and Gibihn and Worrall got two apiece . The other match was between two junior teams, the B selection scoring 21 and 88 and the A’s 60 and 85 for nine wickets.
