STATUE OF BRADMAN
PROPOSAL FOR SYDNEY. COMMITTEE IN LONDON. LONDON, Oct. 9. The erection of a statue of Don Bradman in the Sydney Cricket Ground is contemplated by Australians in London, who have approached Mr Guy Lynch, a Sydney-born sculptor. A committee lias been formed, but owing to the team’s early departure it was impossible finally to arrange matters. Mr. Whitelaiv, who gave Bradman £IOOO after the. Deeds test match, is willing to head the subscription list. Mr. Lynch said : “I am eager to do the statue. Tlie Greeks idolised their athletes, setting up statues of them everywhere; There are too many statues of politicians and philanthropists in Australia. The public would surely welcome cricketers, footballers and tennis players. Bradman is an obvious first; choice.. He would be an easy "man to -sculpture, having clearcut features and a sturdy, welldeveloned body. He has already been photographed, filmed, drawn and painted and it is time he was sculptured ”
